The Emperor of Ice Cream’s Persona

After reading this poem, I was very confused at first.  Then after re-reading it several times, I get the impression that Wallace Stevens was a loner, someone who didn’t interact with too many people.  I believe he was trying to relate making ice cream to life itself.  Ice cream is very exciting and fulfilling but if you don’t take care of it, it melts away and you get nothing from it.  It kind of reminds me of the movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  The “wizard” viewed himself as an emperor and he had a fascination for sweets.  He didn’t interact with very many people either.

After reading Caroline Rodrigues’ post about the poem “Not Waving But Drowning,” she used the persona of Robin Williams, which is similar to mine as the “Wizard.”  They both kept to themselves and had their own personal issues, which no one seemed to pick up on, as they hid their problems very well.  Caroline’s poem also spoke of death, but it seemed as though her persona was crying out for help and no one listened. #vizpoem #fakepoets

  1. I ought to have said this at the time, but I really can’t think of an apter image for the Emperor than Johnny Depp in that movie — you never knew whether he was going to give you a chocolate or send a bunch of ravenous squirrels after you.
